Uvs
About this place
Khyargas Lake is a saltwater lake in Uvs Province, western Mongolia. Open water, dry surrounding landscapes and striking shoreline rocks make it a distinctive stop in the Great Lakes Depression. Khetsuu Khad is a well-known rocky landmark on the lake.
Best time to visit
Plan shore visits around local weather and access conditions. Spring ice, summer wind, autumn cold and winter freezing require different preparations.
Getting there
The modeled airport road approach is 1,283 km / 18 h 42 min without stops. It ends 8.6 km from the supplied pin in a straight line. Arrange the unmapped final access with a local driver; this is not a measured walking route.
What to know
Keep to existing tracks, respect bird nesting areas and take all waste away. Confirm accommodation and supplies locally.
Safety
Waves and wind can strengthen quickly. Stay back from wet rocks and steep edges; do not enter unverified lake ice. Bring drinking water, warm layers and offline maps.
