Hovd
About this place
Tsambagarav Uul National Park spans Erdenebüren soum in Khovd and Altantsögts and Bayannuur soums in Bayan-Ölgii. Protected since 2000, it conserves the Mongolian Altai’s snow and ice landscapes and snow leopard habitat. Visit the mountain valleys for scenery, photography and locally guided walks. This destination is listed under Khovd; the supplied map pin is a landscape reference, not a verified trailhead or summit.
Best time to visit
Plan valley visits for June–August and confirm snow, river and track conditions locally. Nights can be cold even in summer; access outside this period needs additional local planning.
Getting there
Prepare supplies in Khovd and arrange an experienced local guide and 4WD driver for the Erdenebüren approach. The modeled airport road route stops about 9.9 km from the supplied pin in a straight line. Arrange the remaining approach locally; this offset is not a hiking distance or a mapped trail.
What to know
Confirm entry, camping and access arrangements with the protected-area administration or a local guide. Respect herding families and sacred places, ask before photographing people, use existing tracks and carry out all waste. Observe wildlife from a distance.
Safety
Carry warm and waterproof layers, drinking water, food, spare fuel and offline navigation. Mountain weather can change quickly and mobile coverage may be absent. Glacier travel and summit climbs require specialist guides, equipment and a separate plan; valley sightseeing does not imply safe summit access.
Nearby
Combine the visit with Khovd town and Erdenebüren. Ask a local guide about the Khar Khad rock art on the mountain’s southern side. Ölgii and other western Mongolia stops require separately planned driving stages.
