Burkhan Khaldun stands within the Khentii mountain chain, where steppe meets the coniferous forests of the Siberian taiga. The mountain and its surrounding sacred landscape are closely associated with Mongolian traditions of mountain worship and are recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
